Dear EURASAP members

The picture shows the formal etablishment of EURASAP in Aveiro, Portugal, on December 10, 2004.

The signing at the notary was performed by Prof. Dr Carlos Borrego, Prof. Dr. Ana Isabel Miranda, Stela Pinheiro, all of the Univ. of Aveiro, and Prof. Dr. Peter Builtjes as chairman of EURASAP.

The EURASAP committee has discussed the status of EURASAP several times. The reasons to move EURASAP from its "birthplace" at Imperarial College, London , initiated by Prof. Dr. Helen ApSimon to Aveiro were the following. The official status of EURASAP as a charity in the UK created continuous problems and hindered our flexibility. Furthermore, also the money exchange to the UK not being in the EURO-zone was sometimes a handicap. But most important, it is always good not to put the burden of being the official EURASAP home for too long time at one place. The Univ. of Aveiro, Department of Environment has an outstanding record in the science of air pollution, with a large group of young and enthusiastic scientists who will carry EURASAP further in the years to come.

Peter Builtjes
The Chairman of EURASAP
