UNIVERSITY OF SHEFFIELD

TIES/SPRUCE 2000 (4 - 8 September 2000)
COFIN WORKSHOP (9 - 12 September 2000)

Members of EURASAP will be interested in both of these back-to-back meetings.

For the first time, The International Environmetrics Society (TIES) and Statistics in Public Resources, Utilities and in Care of the Environment (SPRUCE) are joining forces to hold an International Conference, TIES / SPRUCE 2000. This will be hosted in the UK by The University of Sheffield from 4-8 September 2000. The theme of TIES / SPRUCE 2000 will be

CURRENT ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES:
QUANTITATIVE METHODS

Among the plenary speakers are Steve Hanna and Jim McQuaid.

TIES/SPRUCE 2000 will be immediately followed by a Workshop on the EU-sponsored COFIN project (Concentration Fluctuations in Gas Releases by Industrial Accidents). COFIN is a collaboration between the Riso National Laboratory, Roskilde, Denmark and the University of Sheffield. COFIN deals with models of atmospheric dispersion and uses LIDAR data from several sets of field trials. At the workshop, other papers on atmospheric dispersion that focus on incorporating the effects of concentration fluctuations will be welcome and, as for TIES/SPRUCE 2000, Abstracts will be solicited in due course. The dates of the COFIN Workshop are 9-12 September 2000, and it is intended that the last day (8th September 2000) of TIES/SPRUCE 2000 will include papers that focus on atmospheric dispersion and industrial accidents, thereby overlapping with the COFIN Workshop.

Many participants may attend both meetings.
