Attendance fee to be decided but anticipated to be modest.Conference aim
For researchers, designers and regulators to exchange information and ideas from their own countries on dealing with the great challenge of climate change and its effect on buildings, their occupants and sustainability.Topics for papers should include:
- Climate change scenarios, including weather parameters (such as solar radiation, dry bulb temperature, humidity, wind and rain) of interest to building designers, owners and occupants.
- Climate change implications for building design, including use of renewable energy and natural ventilation.
- Regulations and design criteria relating to weather data and climate change implications.
- Comfort implications.
- Kyoto protocol implications for the built environment.
- How each country is dealing with climate change relating to the built environment.
- Structural and cost implications for buildings.
Provisional timetable
Abstracts, [in English] (up to 200 words) due 1st July 2001
Notification of acceptance of abstracts; September 2001
Papers [in English] (5 A4 pages), due December 31st 2001
Revised papers due by end Feb 2002.The conference will be held on the UMIST Campus, in the centre of Manchester, the vibrant capital of the North of England, with excellent transport links to Manchester Airport and with many nearby hotels and conference accommodation.
